ABOUT US

My name is Phil Staley and I started Myanmar Traveller because I felt compelled to share the treasures of this culturally rich land. As a seasoned traveller I have spent a lot of time exploring South-East Asia and what I discovered about Myanmar is that it truly remains untouched by the tourist trade. Of course, this is largely due to the sanctions put in place from the USA and the EU. Because of these sanctions, travelling in Myanmar is like stepping back in time to the 1950s – when you’d be hard-pressed to spot another westerner.

As someone who has travelled extensively throughout Myanmar, I have an intimate knowledge of this country and its people and what makes it so special.

For the past eight years, I have worked as a director of one of Australia’s leading backpacker travel companies. This venture was so successful that I extended it beyond Australia, to New Zealand, the South Pacific and to Asia.

I always new the Asian market would open up, but I have never lost sight of my focus: to offer something exciting and unique to travellers and accommodate their different needs. Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos have all experienced dramatic changes thanks to tourism – changes that are both good and bad.

The very time I visited Burma or Myanmar as they call it was in 1978 when seven-day visas were allowed; the experience was made even more special simply because it had not been exploited and remained so untouched. It was clear to me that no other Asian country could compare to this land … and, since 2004, I have returned to the country each year. My dream has long been to enable people to visit countries that are deemed “dangerous and unstable” and show them that it can be done. People really want to visit Myanmar and I see it as my personal mission to deliver the message that traveling in this country is actually very safe and secure. IE Lonely Planet, which has long been considered the “budget traveller’s bible”, has released its new guide to Afghanistan. How many tourists do you think would list Afghanistan as top of their places-to-see list right now? But the point is you can travel safely to Afghanistan if you are accompanied by a guide such as myself who has been there and knows the score.

My travels have taken me through many exotic lands in Asia and the Middle East: Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal. I am very passionate about Asia and my total focus is on Burma, or Myanmar as its now known.

Myanmar Traveller only sells quality and secure products in Myanmar. Whether you are seeking adventure or luxury, are traveling solo or with a group, Myanmar is a must-see country. Book online or contact me to coordinate a tour that is custom-designed to suit your individual needs.
