Visas
All visitors to Myanmar require a valid passport with an Entry Visa.
A Tourist Visa allows a stay of 28 days, which can be extended
by an additional 14 days, while a Business Visa – which allow a
10-week stay – can be extended by up to 12 months on a case-by-case basis.
Although the Visa on Arrival program has been suspended since November 1, 2011,
pre-arranged visas are available when you book a tour package through Myanmar Traveller
or by prior arrangement with the
Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. If you are issued
with a Pre-Arranged Visa on Arrival, you must enter Myanmar before the visa expires
(30 days after it has been issued).
There are two kinds of Tourist Visas:
The Tourist Entry Visa (for foreign independent travellers). Travellers
are encouraged to apply for a visa from the Myanmar Embassy or Consulate in their
home country by submitting a completed
visa application form
along with their passport and three passport-size photographs. Tourist Entry
Visas cost $US20 per person CHECK and take about two
weeks to process.
Tourist Entry Visa (for those booked on a pre-paid package tour).Myanmar Traveller
will help process the applications of those visitors who have purchased a pre-paid
package. Applicants who have a pre-paid package must sign an agreement
that they will not be involved in politics nor religion during their stay and will
adhere to the tour’s agreed itinerary.
Travel to and from Myanmar
Travel to and from Myanmar via land is possible, but the number
of land border crossing points are limited. They include:
Tachilek (Myanmar Shan State)-Mae Sai (Thailand Border)
Muse (Myanmar Shan State)-Ruili (China Border)
Tamu (Myanmar Chin State)-Morei (India Border)
Kaw Thoung (Myanmar Tanintharyi)-Ranong (Thailand Border)

PAYMENT OF VISA FEES MAY BE MADE BY CASH, MONEY ORDER, BANK CHEQUE OR COMPANY
CHEQUE (PAYABLE TO EMBASSY OF MYANMAR). NO PERSONAL CHEQUES WILL BE ACCEPTED UNDER
ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE IN AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS. IF MORE THAN ONE
APPLICANT, PAYMENT CAN BE COMBINED IN ONE CHEQUE/MONEY ORDER.
REQUIREMENTS OT BE SENT TO EMBASSY(Per applicant)
- 1. Passport with at least six months validity and blank page for visa
- 2. ONE tourist visa application form
- 3. TWO recent passport size colour photographs
- 4. Departure date from Australia(or home country if not resident in Australia)
- 5. Dates of entry into and departure from Myanmar
- 6. Visa fee A$ 35.00 per person
- 7. Business hours contact phone number (in Australia or home country)
- 8. Self-addressed pre-paid envelope or courier satchel large enough to hold all
passport, for safe return, i.e. Registered Post, Platinum Express (ordinary postage
is not acceptable)
- 9. Confirmation of pre-paid package tour (if applicable)
